Annual Subscriptions to BOAT – A Request
I am writing as Chairman of BOAT to thank you for your support for the Trust. Our Friends are loyal and have supported the work of BOAT in many ways over the years, not least by buying many tractor draw tickets, recently we have taken part in the local Rotary Grand Draw selling draw tickets at various shows, Devon County Show in May and Honiton Show in Aug look out for our ticket sellers in 2026.
We continue to believe that improving the Management, Business and Training Skills of senior personnel from Agricultural Training Colleges and Rural Development Projects who are in the position to influence the lives of so many of the poorest in their countries is a worthwhile investment. In 2024, BOAT entered a new phase of delivery by moving online, delivering an ILM (Institute of Leadership Management) course through provider Skern Training and Skills. The topics were selected to mirror similarities of the original course and following a fact-finding visit to Kulika, Uganda by trustees Viv Horton and Peter Reed, the ILM units were selected.
This training is much valued by the recipients and their employers as evidenced by the feedback that we get from them both, as well as the staff who teach them.
BOAT has built a number of partnerships over the years, particularly in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi, and we plan to increase our in-country training delivery to provide further support to these partners and their agricultural and rural development education programmes as a logical extension of the UK training.
In order to achieve our ambitions we shall need to raise more funds. Although we conduct a number of fund raising activities, we lack a reliable income stream. I am writing to invite you to consider becoming a regular subscriber to BOAT to enable us to deliver even more training. We will aim to keep you informed about our work through two newsletters per year and invite you to events that we organise, whether or not you subscribe by this mechanism. I hope that you will respond positively to this request.
